In Columbus, interstate highways crossed right at the door of the King-Lincoln neighborhood. The freeway further isolated the community though there are now proposals to create more of a visual connection along Long Street to encourage pedestrian traffic and make the entrance into King Lincoln more vibrant.

The King-Lincoln Neighborhood has long been known for its artistic contributions to the city and to the nation.

The King-Lincoln area in Columbus was home to an African-American community of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.

The businesses along Mt. Vernon Avenue were in the midst of some of the hottest confrontations of the Civil Rights Movement including protests against Jewish business owners in Columbus.

More than places of worship, churches in the King-Lincoln community are trusted champions of the neighborhood and fighters for civil rights.

King-Lincoln has history, opportunity, resources of people and institutions, a musical and artistic legacy, and challenges that came with segregation, integration, dividing freeways, lack of jobs, downward national economic turns, suburbanization, and numerous efforts to revitalize.
