SUN Behavioral Health opens an in-patient adolescent facility in North Columbus on Monday.
Central Ohio kids who could be a danger to themselves or others have limited options for the comprehensive care they need.
Brandon Farris from SUN Behavioral Health estimates Franklin County only has about 60 beds for in-patient services for young people struggling with mental illness or addiction.
鈥淪o a lot of times when we鈥檙e talking to our community partners, adolescent patients are spending days in hospital emergency rooms waiting for bed availability, and then once they do have bed availability, many times they鈥檙e sent hours away from the counties that they鈥檙e in or even out of state," Farris says.
SUN鈥檚 new facility will offer 18 beds initially, but they鈥檙e hoping to double that capacity to 36 beds soon.
